Enamel Flowers by Linda Darty

The rich color of transparent enamels fired over
polished metal is delicate and fascinating.
One of our favorite enamelists is
Linda Darty.   This artist, author, and teacher
does it all and does it wonderfully well.

Her current collection features a broad range
of recurring floral motifs, but they're
 not just simple flowers.
Her jaw-dropping silver settings are designed as
flowers, leaves and branches which are
then matched with delicately
enameled blossoms.
She is a master of champlevé and cloisonné
enamel techniques and it is these particular pieces in her
collection that we love the most.
But sometimes it's difficult to decide which are
more beautiful - the settings or the enamel centerpieces.

As one examines her work in the light the viewer
notices different colors
begin to appear more pronounced.
It's mesmerizing to turn it in the light and
enjoy its richness and depth.

The enameling medium is demanding and unforgiving.
Yet when done well the effects can be spectacular.

Her painterly approach to enameling
produces irresistible gemlike surfaces, brilliant colors,
extraordinary depth and varied textures.

Luckily, for those who love her designs
there will be an opportunity to see some of her
work in person this month.
Linda will be participating in the annual Signs of Life
contemporary jewelry art show being exhibited
at Facèré Art Jewelry Gallery.

One of her contributions to this event will be
a multi-dimensional brooch created with
her trademark champlevé and cloisonné
enamel techniques.
It's called Santa Maria del Fiore.

Signs of Life 2011 showcases work by only nine jewelry
artists paired with nine writers in a unique
publication that celebrates both
literature and jewelry art.

This exhibition will run from
October 5 - October 26, 2011.

Signs of Life exhibition you can visit

Exhibition - Kate Cusack, Margaux Lange, Sissi Westerberg Jewelry

There's a new exhibition at Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery
called "ABeCeDarian."  It runs from May 18
through June 4 and is described as a "contemporary
jewelry art exhibition and ABC book
featuring the work of twenty-six artists,
each producing a piece that
corresponds with a letter of the alphabet."

OK, sounds interesting.

The participant list is comprised of: Julia Barello,
Ken Bova, Jana Brevick, Kathy Buszkiewicz,
Melissa Calohan, Nancy Mēgan Corwin, Kate Cusack,
Donna D'Aquino,  Laurie Hall, Tom Hill, Trudee Hill,
Melissa Huff,  Margaux Lange, Kristin Lora,
Bruce Metcalf, Marcia Meyers, Ted Noten,
Kait Rhoads, ROY, Cindy Sumner,
Anthony Tammaro, Carolyn Tillie, Cynthia Toops,
Kiwon Wang, Sarah Wauzynski, and Sissi Westerberg.

Let's take a look at just a few of the
delightful one-of-a-kind
jewelry included in this exhibition.

Here we have Sissi Westerberg's piece using the
letter 'D' for Drip.  This imaginative item is called
"Something Inside" and is made of acrylic. Some
ideas are so simple yet so elegant.
We love the eye-popping color;
it may be monochromatic but it certainly
 makes a statement.

Then we have Margaux Lange illustrating the
letter 'K' for Knees.
Many art jewelry followers are familiar
with work by this artist.
Whimsical and nostalgic her designs incorporate
salvaged Barbie doll parts, and the jewelry she has
provided for this exhibition
is no exception. Her piece is
called "Cross-legged Brooch."

Lastly, let's look at a piece offered by Kate Cusack
using the letter 'Z' for Zippers.  This spectacular
necklace is called "Elizabeth."
With roots in costume design and
a flair for the theatrical,
it's easy to classify every one of her pieces
as a production - an amazing
visual spectacle. Every time we see her
work it's always lavish and luxurious.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
There are so many other
beautiful pieces of jewelry
on display.
Plus, the opportunity to get the
ABC book that accompanies
this exhibit.
Enjoy!

Exhibition - Rebecca Hannon and Vicki Mason Jewelry

Let's take one last look at the current exhibition,
"Transmutations: Material Reborn,"
This exhibition is running from
April 28 through May 17, 2010.
(You may also want to visit our first post about
this exhibit, showcasing Betty Heald.)

"Transmutations: Material Reborn," is a contemporary
jewelry art show featuring twenty-seven
international artists who transform plastics
(materials that include resin,
latex, rubber, vinyl, and thermoplastics)
 into wearable art.

As the gallery describes it -
There are pieces meant for everyday adornment,
and pieces meant to make a statement.
Let's take a look at some examples of the one-of-a-kind
jewelry included in this exhibition.
Here are some playful pieces
created by Rebecca Hannon.

Her chosen materials include plastic and sterling silver.

This endearing piece is called "Map Brooch."

and these amusing earrings are called "Drama."

Additionally, we can see some adorable
pieces created by Vicki Mason.

Each of her works at the exhibit
feature hand-dyed PVC,
black powder-coated brass and copper,
with polyester and rayon thread.

This charming brooch is
called "Tinkering with Nature II."

and here we can see another sweet brooch
called "Tinkering with Nature III."

Light-hearted and thoughtful at the same time.
We are inspired by the variations of materials
and designs that can be created from
a mundane material such as plastics.

Are you inspired?
Let us know your thoughts,
we'd love to hear from you.

This Pin/Pendant in vitreous enamel, 22k gold, copper, and oxidized sterling silver is called, 'Kinsei.'

Another Pin/Pendant in enamel, 22k gold, and oxidized sterling silver is called, 'Gris.'

Nancy Bonnema Jewelry

Let take another look at the current exhibition, Juju Magic, being held at Facere Jewelry Art Gallery
This exhibition is running from January 27, 2010
through February 15, 2010.

(You may also want to visit our first post about this exhibit, showcasing Jan Smith Jewelry.)

"JuJu Magic" is a contemporary jewelry art show featuring seventeen artists with magic in mind.
As the gallery describes it - Juju is a word of West African origin that refers to the supernatural power ascribed to an object or fetish. The object that contains the juju can then be used to cure ailments (good juju) or even exact revenge (bad juju).
Throughout this exhibition, the artists of JuJu Magic have created their own interpretations of the theme.

Here are a couple of delightful examples of work created by Nancy Bonnema.  This piece is from her Bubble Wands series - an enchanting pendant in sterling silver and enamel on copper.

Here is another interpretation of a Bubble Wand pendant that Nancy has also made with sterling silver and enamel on copper.

We can envision the magic bubbles floating from these wands successfully warding off malevolent attacks from mean-spirited people.

Maybe we all should get ourselves a magic bubble wand.
Or two.

If you're in the area, pop in to see the exhibition.  Let us know what you think.

Jan Smith Jewelry

We recently became aware of a jewelry exhibition currently showing at Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery:
"JuJu Magic" runs from January 27, 2010 - February 15, 2010.

The artists of this "JuJu Magic" exhibition have created their own interpretations of this theme: from mnemonic devices for prayer and mementos of home to amulets for protection and charmed objects.

Some of the Jewelry Artists in this exhibition include: Allyson Bone, Nancy Bonnema, Jessica Calderwood, Susan Chin, Christina Goodman, Janice P. Ho, Judith Hoyt, Nicole Jacquard, Maya Kini, Christy Klug, Karen McCreary, Jan Smith, Cindy Sumner, and Cynthia Toops.

Let's take a look at some examples of the one-of-a-kind jewelry included in this exhibition -- Here is an adorable brooch made by Jan Smith called, 'Loves Me,' fabricated in sterling silver, enamel on copper, and 22k gold bimetal.

Jan has also contributed an exuberant neckpiece and earring set in sterling silver and enamel on copper called 'Protection From Crazy Makers.'

If you get an opportunity to visit this exhibition in person, let us know. OK?
